Carl Diver, is the Director of PrintCity at Manchester Metropolitan University, a state-of-the-art 3D printing facility with over 70 printers across 7 different technologies, he is also the academic lead on Industry 4.0 at MMU and the UK’s first Reader in Industrial Digitalisation. He has an industrial background having worked in the automotive sector for over 12 years in manufacturing. His PhD students and MSc students work on additive manufacturing and digital connectivity-related projects with Industry sponsorship in many cases. He is the Academic Chair of the Department of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board at MMU with over 40 members. He is the Chair of the Gambica University Industry Council that is looking at enhanced collaboration between Academia and Industry, and he sits on their Board of Directors. He is currently involved in KTP projects related to Industry 4.0 for food packaging, footwear and surface measurement. He is on the project review panel for Made Smarter North West. He is part of the core team that secured £3.2m in funding for the PrintCity Network Programme from ERDF to establish an additive manufacturing facility in Manchester dedicated for the use of SMEs, this facility is investing £800,000 in state-of-the-art equipment related to additive manufacturing. He was heavily involved in activities at MMU in agreeing on the collaboration between MMU, Siemens and Festo on the Connected Curriculum program. His work in manufacturing has also been published in highly regarded journals.
